Rainy Friday night

Adele was introduced to this old song by the bus driver on her last tour. It's one of my favorites. Above it, just an image that feels right this evening.

Wednesday is the new Friday

Great image taken of DJ SoulCall Paul's table tonight at The Gibson. Danny Harris' "At Home on the Playa" opening, curated by The Dunes. Harris is also the creator of People's District, a fantastic local story telling blog.

Friday satisfaction

We're overdue for a fashion and design post, but I can't resist sharing this early video of the The Rolling Stones. Seems like an appropriate Friday morning post.

The audio isn't great, but you'll totally get why this band shook the 60's music world. Mick Jagger jams out, dances like crazy and gives the camera some serious come hither looks (which include licking his lips?!? ... seriously). This was not the music that mothers wanted their daughters listening to, but it was/is just too good...

Happy Friday, all. I hope that the day flies by, and the weekend brings all kinds of good things.

Easy listening

For the last hour I've been basking in Hype Machine's new, brilliant project - The Music Blog Zeitgeist. It's a smooth ride through the songs that music bloggers loved the most in 2010. No interruptions. No need to skip ahead. Listen by artist, song or album. Download.

This will be on all week long.

Music in motion

Maybe it's these cold winter nights that have me slowing down a bit and needing to ease into energetic melodies.

I've found myself revisiting this video in particular. I love Fleet Foxes' harmonies and the footage of Paris, but - more than anything - I wish I were one of the ladies standing against the wall in the final scene. Blue Ridge Mountain (song #2) is one of my favorites, and I imagine it sounded pretty incredible live, bouncing off the walls of that tall empty room.

A taste of something fine

Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, Cass Elliot, David Geffen & Ned Doheny: Venice California, Easter Sunday, 1972

Jackson Browne's Solo Acoustic album. There's a lot of heartbreak, love and musings on the night, but if you have an ounce of romantic in you then it'll win you over time and time again.

Don't forget to listen to Browne's stories between the tracks. They make the songs all that more sweet and funny.

Thankful

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Until next time, a beautiful acoustic version of You've Got the Love by Florence and the Machine. This girl has got some pipes. Turn up the volume.

Back on the grid

I'll wait for you,
and should I fall behind
wait for me.

Darlin' I'll wait for you.
Should I fall behind,
wait for me.

His style

Well, do anything that you want to do but
Honey, lay off my shoes
And don't you
Step on my blue suede shoes.

A little soul and funk

I love it when a weekend is such fun that I find myself joyously reliving it at my desk on Wednesday.

I've been humming this great funk/soul song since Saturday night and smiling as I remember a girl with long blonde hair sporting a beautiful sequined jacket, dancing her heart out on top of a bar stool.

Her jacket was vintage. The place was Velvet Lounge. The DJ was amazing.

This jacket is by Antik Batik, available here.
